Google is bringing some improvements to video playback for Chrome for Android. Chrome 52 for Android will make video playback feel smoother and it has been improved for speed and power efficiency.
With the latest update videos will now start playing sooner, instead of pausing briefly before loading. This will in turn improve the battery life on your Android device, meaning it will last longer. Moreover, videos also now works with Data Saver Mode which Google claims save you as much as 50% on data by showing a lightweight version of the video.
These improvements will be most noticeable on short videos, which make up the majority of videos on the web. As more and more publishers and sites are moving to HTML5, the video experience on Chrome will keep improving.
