Huawei Defeats Samsung To Become The Most Profitable Android Smartphone Brand

Huawei has reportedly overthrown Samsung in the smartphone sales this year, according to a new report. With this, it becomes the world’s most profitable smartphone brand. Samsung, which owned this position earlier, had a considerable loss after the company’s latest flagship Galaxy Note 7 failed in the market (It recalled the model entirely from the market after the explosion fiasco).

Huawei shipped an impressive 100 million smartphones by October 2016. It is already one of the biggest smartphone vendors in China. Majority of its sales success came from smartphones such as Huawei P9 and Honor 8.
A research firm Strategy Analytics claimed that Huawei was the second most profitable smartphone vendor overall for the quarter ended September 30th. Apple occupies the first position. The Chinese players Vivo and Oppo grab the third and fourth position respectively.
Huawei is said to have generated more than $200 million in smartphone operating profit before interest and tax worldwide during the third quarter of 2016. That accounts for 2.4 percent of the global smartphone operating profits for this period. It also makes Huawei the most profitable Android smartphone vendor, a position once held firmly by Samsung,” the report said.
In India, Huawei launched Honor 8 in October.  Priced at Rs. 29,999, it comes with premium features such as dual-camera, fingerprint scanner, HiSilicon Kirin 950 octa-core chipset, 3000mAh battery, etc. This 4G VoLTE smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and comes in two RAM variants — 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB storage.
At the launch event, Huawei also showcased the Honor Holly 3, which will be a part of the “Make in India” initiative. Another variant of the Honor 8, dubbed as the Honor 8 Smart, will also retail at Rs. 20,000.
